The Christian Science Church is

"…a church designed to commemorate the word and works of our Master, which should reinstate primitive Christianity and its lost element of healing." (Church Manual of The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Mass. by Mary Baker Eddy, pg. 17).

Christian Science explains how God governs the universe spiritually. The Church of Christ, Scientist is designed to make the healing and educational system known as Christian Science available and accessible to everyone. It enables us to understand our relationship to a loving God and our relationship to each other. This understanding improves our lives, our communities, and the world. Christian Science is an international Christian denomination based on the teachings of Christ Jesus and the inspired word of the Bible. The complete explanation of Christian Science is contained in the book Science & Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, the founder of Christian Science. It is the textbook used by Christian Scientists to study the Bible and is available in the Christian Science Reading Room.

For over 100 years Christian Science Churches have been holding weekly testimony meetings to demonstrate that the powerful truths contained in the Bible still heal today.

The local Christian Science churches around the world serve their communities as branches of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts.

Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures
by Mary Baker Eddy

Mary Baker Eddy was an active thinker and writer. As a young woman, she wrote for magazines and newspapers, sometimes under various pseudonyms. In her later years, she engaged in discourse with thousands of men and women, including some established thought leaders. With her published work, Eddy openly challenged conventional thinking in theology, medicine, and science. Eddy’s writings continue to open doors of thought on a variety of subjects. In addition to her primary work, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy published a number of shorter works, including a spiritual autobiography, Retrospection and Introspection.

Mary Baker Eddy’s primary work, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, is a 700-page book detailing her discovery of Christian Science, her system of healing, and her commentary on the Scriptures. It was the focal point for the expression of so many of Eddy’s ideas. “That work is the outgrowth of my whole life, as my dear husband used to say,” she wrote to a student.

First published in 1875, Science and Health has sold over 10 million copies and is a best-seller today. 2000-2001 yielded the book’s highest annual sales ever. It has also been cited by the Women’s National Book Association as “one of the 75 books by women whose words have changed the world.”

Following a serious accident, Eddy had a profound healing experience that provided important insights into the spiritual nature of life and health—insights which she had been seeking for many years. She later called that experience a “discovery” and soon sought to understand, replicate, make notes on, and teach this discovery to students and patients. As Eddy’s ability to prove the effectiveness of her discovery grew, she established herself as a healer and began to teach others how to heal. In 1868, she was asked to help a woman dying from pneumonia. The doctor in attendance had informed her that there was no hope for the patient, but Eddy immediately cured the woman. The doctor urged her to write a book about her system of healing and share it with the world. Science and Health is the result.

Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures is available in 16 language translations and English Braille. Read Science and Health online.

Healing In Christian Science

The members of our church are dedicated to spiritual healing through reliance on God as the source of man's health and well being. The establishment of this denomination is founded on these words from the Bible in Matthew 10:8 - "Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give."

Each service is a healing service and we also offer many ways in which to become acquainted with the discovery of spiritual prayer as an effective tool for establishing health, for resolving every type of human challenge, and for individual growth in a clearer understanding of God. These are just some of the resources available for learning more about spiritual healing:

Written testimonies of healings can be found in the Christian Science Sentinel, The Christian Science Journal, and the chapter entitled Fruitage in Science & Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. All of these are available in the Christian Science Reading Room.

Wednesday Evening Testimony Meetings include accounts of healings and experiences and remarks on Christian Science.

Christian Science Practitioners, who dedicate their full time to spiritual healing, can be called for information about healing or help through prayer. They are listed by country, state, and city in the back of The Christian Science Journal a monthly magazine.

Christian Science lectures are sponsored by Christian Science branch churches each year for the public. If you would like to be informed of these instructive talks on healing, please contact a branch church in your area for upcoming events.

Each church maintains a Christian Science Reading Room in the local area. There you can speak with an attendant about questions you may have on spiritual healing, as well as read, borrow, or purchase Christian Science literature.
